About

Gillian Poucher was born in Bolton. After studying history at undergraduate level at the University of Durham, Gillian took professional legal exams and worked as a solicitor in Rochdale and Manchester before training as a church minister.

She was ordained into the United Reformed Church in 2006 and completed her PhD in Biblical Studies in 2013 at the University of Sheffield. Gillian lives in Lincolnshire with her husband, daughter and too many books!

Gillian’s novels are partly inspired by the city of Lincoln and its history.

Gillian’s first novel was After The Funeral, partly inspired by the city of Lincoln and neighbouring villages and Lincolnshire’s aviation history. Most of the novel is set in Lincolnshire.

She has since published a sequel, A Question of Loyalty, where we find out what happens next for Julia Butler.

Her third novel (published September 2023) is titled Vision of Light, where we meet a new protagonist, Noel Reilly:

Estranged from his family, divorced and in debt, Noel Reilly has nowhere to turn. When his pregnant ex-partner is murdered and he is viewed as a suspect by local police, he contemplates taking his life – before a mystical riverside encounter offers a glimmer of hope.

Still doubting his mental state, Noel can’t deny the strange events that begin to unfold, but is bewildered when an elderly neighbour with dementia seems to recognise the visionary figure he has seen. Learning that his home town has a violent and troubled past, Noel discovers he has a key role to play in the life-and-death struggle overshadowing it.

Bravely confronting his childhood trauma, Noel will need help from unexpected new friends if a deranged killer is to be stopped, and if healing is to be found for his family and the benighted town.
